The Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, Cllr Declan Burgess, is to formally unveil a memorial plaque and garden to the late Paddy Ryan in Emly this evening.
The event is being organised by Emly Tidy towns as part of the wider Emly Festival which this year has a theme of Leave No One Behind.
Mr Ryan died earlier this year and his friends wanted to mark his contribution to community life over four decades by creating a memorial garden at the entrance to the Glen Court Housing Estate.
The event will take place at 6.30pm and will be followed at 7.30pm the Annual Graveyard Mass with refreshments served outdoors if the weather is suitable or in Byrnes Tavern as an indoor alternative.
The Festival will continue until Sunday with a varied range of events for people of all ages.
The Rail history of Emly is the subject of an audio visual presentation on Thursday night at 8pm followed by a Progressive 45 Drive – both in Byrnes Tavern.
The Festival is not held every year according to the organisers to ensure that it keeps it’s appeal for the entire community of Emly and all welcome to the events but especially tonight’s dedication ceremony.
