The 14-year-old boy missing in Cappawhite is now home safe.
Leo was missing since early on Sunday morning and a major search operation had been mobilised to find him.
The boy’s mother posted that “Lee is home safe. Thank you to everyone who went out searching the past two days and giving up your time, and to everyone for your tremendous support and prayers and shares. I am absolutely over the moon.” The boy is understood to have made his way home shortly after 1am. He had been staying over at a friend’s house on Saturday night but left to walk home – CCTV footage from homes and businesses had traced his movements until 4.15am on Sunday morning.
The community rallied to assist the family with volunteers taking part in searches of land and outbuildings alongside a tremendous response on social media where posts were shared several hundred times. The boy has 3 siblings all living with his mother in Cappawhite. Volunteers with Tipperary Search and Rescue, Limerick Land Search Team, Killaloe Coast Guard, East Limerick Red Cross assisted by An Garda Siochana were involved in the search operation. Cappawhite Community Council made the Community Centre available as a base for search operations providing toilets, refreshments and facilities to charge devices.
