Limerick Junction Residents Propose A Money Saving Option For The Sologhead To Train Station Walkway

74

Residents in Limerick Junction are offering Tipperary County Council a money saving option for a proposed walkway to link the Sologhead Memorial to the Racecourse, the N24 and the Train station.

The community is very dissatisfied about how the project has developed to the Planning Application Stage without any direct engagement with local residents. The proposed route would see the walkway run directly behind the houses situated between the Limerick Junction Train Station and the main N24 road.  The residents are concerned about security and a loss of privacy even if a mesh type security fence is installed. The residents suggest that this portion of the pathway be removed from the project and that any walkers wanting to reach the N24 or the race course would use the newly refurbished footpath on the existing roadway.

Residents are engaging with local councillors in the Tipperary Cashel Municipal District, who will eventually vote on the project, and will make their concerns and suggestions known in their submissions which must be made by July 12th. The presentation of the proposal on the Tipperary Council website is also a cause for concern as residents want the project to be accessed by using a search option rather than having to check under the “Consultations tab.”

The continuing anti-social behaviour of passengers removed from trains at Limerick Junction due to their behaviour is also a cause for concern. A ”feeling of being vulnerable and in fear for the safety of children and neighbours” has galvanized the community response to work on submissions objecting the walkway as proposed.  The Project Details and Submission point can be found at this link here.
