Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill is warning of a fodder crisis next winter. The TD wants the National Fodder and Food Security Committee (NFFSC) to meet as soon as possible to make preparations for next winter’s challenges. Farming organisations and state agencies involved in agriculture make up the Committee with over 30 members involved.
The TD says fodder stocks have been depleted by the long winter and that grass growth is 30% below average this Summer causing concerns for silage supplies in the upcoming Winter/Spring. The TD says farmers are suffering mental and financial anguish and stressed the mental anguish – describing farming as a lonely profession. The Taoiseach Simon Harris says the government will always support farmers and committed to asking Minister McConalogue to arrange a meeting of the group which was first established in Spring 2022.
