Two projects in county Tipperary are to receive additional funding from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

Cahir’s Town Centre Regeneration Strategy is to get an additional €1,648,851 to bring the Department’s allocation to €13,564.600 with the total project cost now calculated at €16,955,750. The extra funding has been welcomed by Cllr Andy Moloney. The additional funding will allow the new car park opposite the Post Office to be finished along with work on the new library (in the former Granary Craft Building) to commence once the tender process is completed.

Cllr Moloney says that the increased funding of €1.65m will be a huge economic boost to the town which has become busier in recent years and will improve pedestrian circulation and footfall to help retail and the hospitality sectors.

The completion of the car park and a new state of the art library and an improved public realm to follow along with a new business hub in the old library should be a huge benefit to all states the Independent Councillor. Plans for new housing developments that are in process will all put pressure on existing services and make the infrastructural improvements all the more urgent he concluded.

The second project is in Roscrea and involves the regeneration of Gantly Road. An extra €428,403 was allocated today after the project costs were revised. This brings the revised project cost to €6,175,000 with the Department now providing a total of €4,940,000. The Roscrea project involves an upgrade of the roadway and footpath, new lighting, new street furniture and landscaping. The enhanced public realm is intended to deliver social engagement, active travel, and support for local businesses through increased footfall. The allocation has been welcomed by Tipperary Independent TD Michael Lowry.
