The Excel Cinema in Tipperary is to screen “That They May Face the Rising Sun”.

The film will be shown tonight Friday June 28th at 8pm and also on Saturday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 8pm. There will also be a special matinee at 1pm on Wednesday July 3rd.   This is in addition to the other films on offer – full details on the Excel website at this link  here.
Management at that cinema says there were many requests to screen the film which is based on internationally acclaimed Irish author John McGahern’s award winning novel of the same name.  That They May Face the Rising Sun is set in a 1970’s rural community in Ireland and tells the story of Joe and Kate Ruttledge who return from London to live close to where Joe grew up.

The Cinema is currently offering a ticket price deal for the month to June to thank the public for their support of fundraising measures to replace the cinema projection equipment. A Community Open Day is to be held during the Summer to welcome patrons to the complex and to highlight the range of facilities available. At that time a presentation will be made from the proceeds of the recent Climb Galtymore sponsored walk – a magnificent €17,000, with the Excel and the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association(SEMRA) the beneficiaries.

A number of initiatives are in train at the Local Arts Centre including a new ticket booking system which will allow for online bookings to be made.  Research is being done to schedule other Irish movies like John McGaherns ” That They May Face the Rising Sun “along with a return of the cinema club with foreign and arthouse and silverscreen movies all in the pipeline. At the moment rehearsals are in progress with the youth theatre group for this August’s classic musical Chicago scheduled for August 7th to 10th inclusive.

Fundraising efforts are continuing as the Heating system repairs are a priority for the Board of Management.

Cinema patrons are advised that the American saga Horizon starring Kevin Costner  opening this Friday 28th will screen at 7.15 as it is 3 hours in duration
