Justice Minister Attends Attestation Ceremony For 157 New Gardaí In Templemore

The Minister for Justice Helen McEntee and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris attended the Garda College in Templemore today for the attestation ceremony for 157 new Gardaí. 102 male and 55 females took part in today’s ceremony.  17 of the new Gardaí were born outside the state coming from the USA, Pakistan, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Brazil and Romania.   4 of the probationers were former members of the Reserve Gardaí

The Strength of An Garda Síochána force as of today is 14,100 Sworn Gardaí
3,502 Garda Staff and 329 Garda Reserves.

A further 294 Garda recruits are currently undergoing the training programme at the Garda College.   The next intake of Garda recruits is scheduled to enter the Garda College on Monday 1st July 2024.

Eleven of the new Gardaí are to be assigned to the Southern Region which includes county Tipperary, the vast majority –  102 are to be allocated to the Dublin Region with  38 assigned to the Eastern Region and 6 to the Northwest.
