A Community meeting is to be held in Dualla Community Centre on Thursday evening at 8pm. The meeting is being organised by the Dualla Together group formed in response to a planning application for a 129 hectare solar farm adjacent to the village. The application on behalf of Power Capital Renewable Energy, based in Dublin, is seeking planning permission for 10 years for the solar farm which is expected to have a 40 year lifespan. Over 300 submissions were made by members of the community opposing the grant of permission

Tipperary County Council received the application on March 4th and subsequently sought further information from the applicant on April 26th. The applicant now has up to 6 months to respond to the council request which asks the applicant to address such issues as site lines at the proposed solar farm’s entrances, proximity to the village potentially restricting future growth, a negative impact on three residences close to the proposed site, impact on water supply and quality and the potential impact on wildlife and local sites of archaeological significance.

Dualla Together says the final decision may have to be made by An Bord Pleanála and wants all stakeholders to attend Thursday’s meeting to be informed of the group’s strategy.  The planning application reference number is 2460156.
