Cllr John Cross Elected As Cathaoirleach Of The Tipperary Cahir Cashel MD

Cllr John Crosse, Fine Gael, has been elected to serve as Cathaoirleach of the Tipperary Cahir Cashel MD at today’s AGM. It is the third time for Cllr Crosse to be appointed as Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District Council – he previously served as Cathaoirleach of South Tipperary County Council which was abolished in 2014 when Tipperary County Council was established. Cllr Roger Kennedy, Fianna Fáil, is to be the Leas Cathaoirleach for the coming year – also an experienced politician who served as Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council for the 2022/23 term.

Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael hold 6 of the 11 seats in Tipp Cahir Cashel with 4 Independents and one Sinn Fein councillor completing the council.

The AGM today also made a number of appointment to outside boards with Cllr Anne Marie Ryan Sinn Fein, appointed to the Tipperary Revitalisation Task force, Cllrs Declan Burgess(FG) and Roger Kennedy(FF) appointed to the EU Charter of Rural Communities – Cashel is Ireland’s representative in this organisation while Cllrs Liam Browne Independent, Declan Burgess(FG) and Roger Kennedy(FF) were appointed to the Cashel City Walls Steering Committee.

Cllr Burgess was elected as Cathaoirleach or Chairperson of Tipperary County Council last week. At 28 on the day of appointment he is the youngest ever Cathaoirleach of the Council.
