Concerns Raised Over Traffic Diversion Plans For The N74 Road Project

Concerns are being raised over the decision of the council to divert traffic from the N74 to Knockanrawley road while resurfacing works are carried out at Fr Matthew Street.

A one way traffic system was announced last week and will be in operation for approximately 8 months.

Pearse Park residents Julie Gallagher and Eimear Corscadden says there was no consultation or meeting about the decision to introduce a one way system.

Speaking on Tipp Mid West Radio, Julie says residents are concerned about the volume of traffic on the road and the safety of children in the estate particularly from September when schools and services start back up.

The council says the benefits of the one way system will be free-flowing traffic and no stop and go system on the N74 while current permanent traffic calming arrangements will continue to assist with keeping traffic speeds on the Knockanrawley Road to a minimum.

The council says additional mobile speed radar signs are to be introduced. These traffic claming measures will be monitored as the works progress with the aid of the Gardai.

Updates on the works of the N74 will be provided through the website n74tipperarytown.ie/.
