Ongoing Sewage Issue On The Cashel Road Raised In The Dáil

The ongoing problems with sewage in the Cashel Road area of Tipperary town was raised in the Dáil yesterday by Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath.

The TD asked the Taoiseach Simon Harris to intervene as Uisce Eireann and Tipperary County Council both reject the issue as their responsibility. The Dáil heard that the problem relates to pipes installed under the houses over a hundred years ago. The TD says the legislation underpinning the formation of Uisce Eireann must be amended to make it clear that the company is responsible for such shared infrastructure. The Dáil also heard that some households have begun to see redress via their insurance policies.

The Taoiseach committed to having the Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien review the Tipperary situation in particular and also the broader issue of changing the legislation.
