New Developments Arise In The Sean Meehan Case

1918

There are a number of developments in the Sean Meehan case. The New Inn man is in a protracted campaign to secure planning permission for a home he created for himself on land he owns at Woodinstown, near New Inn.   The home is a mobile home with log cabin type cladding. The latest planning application seeks retention of the mobile home and cladding, 2 out buildings for storage, a septic tank and entrance drive way along with a new application for new cladding with a plaster finish. A decision is due today. A post on Save Sean’s cabin says the application has been denied although the council planning portal has not published the decision.

In addition, Mr Meehan has been notified of a court date for Cashel Court on July 4th at 10.15am. Tipperary Council had commenced legal enforcement proceeding in the case last year as it did not secure planning permission nor did Mr Meehan make an appeal to An Bord Pleanála(ABP).

An appeal to ABP is still a possibility if Mr Meehan is formally refused permission for his latest application. The council’s refusal is thought to be based on two reasons firstly that the applicant has not demonstrated a genuine social need to reside in this location and secondly that the home would be substandard for the occupant, would deteriorate over time and damage the value of other properties.
