A special meeting of Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District will be convened as a mark of respect to former Councillor Christy Kinahan, who died on Monday.
The meeting is to take place tomorrow Wednesday, 12th June at 4pm in the Civic Offices, Rosanna Road. The meeting will allow sitting councillors an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of their former colleague. Mr Kinahan was elected to Tipperary town Urban District Council(UDC) in 1991, 1999 and 2004. He was also a member of the South Tipperary County Council elected in 1999 and 2004. Tipperary UDC and Tipperary South Riding Council were abolished in 2014 and Municipal District Councils and a county Tipperary council took their place.
Members of the community are paying tribute to the late Mr Kinahan on RIP.ie – one person wrote – “A great neighbour.
A hard worker for the people of Tipperary town for many years.
A straight talker. The best.”
Martin Quinn, Tipperary town, describes Mr Kinahan as “one of the greatest public representatives ever in the Tipperary town area.” Speaking earlier today on TMWR Mr Quinn recalled actions taken by Mr Kinahan to highlight issues in the town such as St Vincent’s hospital or the River Arra. He also lavished praise on Mr Kinahan for delivering public service jobs to the town via the Decentralisation programme. Mr Kinahan’s ability to speak his mind made him a great councillor according to Mr Quinn who says his efforts were always focused on issues of concern to Tipperary town.
Mr Kinahan will lie in repose at Whelan’s Funeral Home, Bansha Road, Tipperary on tomorrow evening from 5:30pm to 7pm. Funeral mass will take place in St. Michael’s Church, Tipperary on Thursday, June 13th at 2pm and burial afterwards in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
