Former Tipperary Town & County Councillor Christy Kinahan Has Died

Christy Kinahan, a former Tipperary town and County Councillor has died. Mr Kinahan, who lived in Tipperary town, was an Independent Councillor elected several times between 1991 and 2009.

His daughter Jacqui was co–opted into his seat in 2009 and later joined Fianna Fail in 2015 and was a candidate in the recent local elections. 

Former colleagues on the council have paid tribute to Mr Kinahan with Anne Allen posting that

“Christy was a straight talking and excellent hard working Councillor and a person of Honesty and Integrity. True grit would aptly describe him.”

Another member of the local community, Ken Kingston, posted on Rip.ie that Christy “was a wonderful man, full of knowledge and always with Tipperary’s best interests at heart.” Cllr Roger Kennedy and Tipperary TD Jackie Cahill have also extended their sympathies to the Kinahan family on the death of Christy Kinahan.

Mr Kinahan’s funeral will take place over the next two days with the Funeral Mass at 2pm on Thursday in St Michael Church, Tipperary Town and burial afterwards in St Michael’s cemetery Tipperary town.  Mr Kinahan is predeceased by his wife Fiona and is survived by his daughter’s Siobhan and Jacqui, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family and friends.

Reposing at Whelan’s Funeral Home, Bansha Road, Tipperary on Wednesday evening June 12th from 5:30pm to 7pm.
