RTÉ To Host A Live Televised Debate For Candidates Contesting For Limerick Mayor

315

All 15 of the candidates for the contest to directly elect a Limerick mayor – have been invited to take part in a live televised debate on Monday, 27 May.  The programme is to commence at 10.35pm and conclude at 11.55pm.

The new role will have significant powers and will take over many of the functions of the Limerick County Council CEO. Voters in Limerick approved the creation of the post in a plebiscite in 2019.

RTÉ is dividing the event into two debates on the night. John Moran, who is running as an independent has said he will not take part in the debate as he is not happy with the format. Monday night’s programme will see the eight candidates who qualified under the RTÉ election TV debate criteria participate in part one of the programme. The remaining seven candidates are invited to debate in part two of the programme. The debate will come from the theatre of Mary Immaculate College in Limerick.
