Shane Smith, Shanrahan Cross, Clogheen, has registered to run as an Independent candidate in the Cahir Local Electoral Area(LEA). Mr Smith is a tree surgeon by profession.
There are now 9 candidates declared for the LEA which will elect 4 councillors.
The four sitting councillors are all seeking re-election Mairin McGrath Independent, Micheal Anglim Fianna Fáil, Andy Moloney Independent and Marie Murphy Fine Gael.
In addition Alan Moynihan is standing for the Social Democrats, Cathal O’hEanna for Sinn Fein, PJ English for Fianna Fáil and Tom Hennessy and Shane Smith both Independents.
Voters must register by May 20th for the June 7th Local and European Parliament Elections. A total of 23 candidates are running in the Ireland South Constituency which will elect 5 MEPS.
Nominations for candidates for the Local Elections will close at noon on Saturday May 18th.
