The current RTE1 TV Series – Tracks & Trails will conclude with Tommie Gorman walking part of St Declan’s Way, the pilgrim path linking Cashel and Ardmore in County Waterford. The episode will air on Friday May 10th.
The St Declan’s Way episode with Tommie Gorman starts out from Cahir, and travels in the direction of the Knockmealdowns and includes a visit to Cahir Castle, the Swiss cottage, the ruins of Lady’s Abbey, Knockbilliniry Forest park and also features a chat with historian, John G. Dwyer, who details the story of Liam Lynch who died in the Knockmealdowns during the Civil War. His death on April 10th 1923 effectively ended the Irish civil war.
A film about the tragic last days of Republican commander, General Liam Lynch will be screened in Cabragh Wetlands tonight at 8pm. The Michael Foley production was first screened in South Tipperary last year as part of the centenary commemorations. The event in Cabragh tonight is a fundraiser for the centre with a modest admission fee.
