Garda from Tipperary Roads Policing Unit carrying out speed compliance checks in the Clare East/Tipperary North District detected a vehicle travelling at 89km/h in a 50km zone in the Birdhill area yesterday. The motorist, a new learner permit holder, driving unaccompanied with no L-plates on display was arrested on suspicion of Drug Driving after a failed DrugWipe test for Cannabis. Garda can now use a hand held roadside device to test for certain drugs.
Garda have seized the vehicle and the driver now faces a future court appearance.
