Several motorists are facing fixed charge notices due to speeding in Mid West Tipperary over the weekend.
On Saturday the Tipperary Roads Policing Unit began monitoring speed compliance in a 50km/h zone with the first four vehicle recorded well over the speeding limit; some of the detections included 94km/h, two 83km/h and 81km/h.
Meanwhile the driver travellIng at 94km/h in 50km zone was discovered the insurance policy had been cancelled, this was picked up due to the new Garda insurance app. This vehicle was seized and the driver facing a day in court.
Yesterday Gardai in the Thurles district detected 115km/h , 109km/h, 105km/h, 106km/h, 102km/h, 99km/h and 96km/h in a 60km/h zone.
Gardai are appealing for motorists to slow down and to allow extra time for their journey.
