New car registrations for March were down nationwide by 16% (14,936 units) when compared to March 2023 according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry(SIMI).
In county Tipperary 1,583 new cars have been registered so far this year – 25 more cars than the same period last year.
Overall new car Registrations year to date nationally are up 8.0% to 62,807 units compared to the same period last year.
Light Commercial Vehicles(LVCs) increased by 31.7% to 4,410 units compared to March last year. Year to date LCVs are up 34.1%.
Heavy Goods Vehicle(HGVs) registrations are up 28.2% to 350 units in comparison to March 2023. Year to date HGVs are up 15.0% to 1,110 units.
SIMI says there is an ongoing challenge of transitioning to electrification and the organisation wants the Government to maintain incentives for car buyers and to support the expansion of the charging network to boost consumer confidence.
