A protest march is to take place in Clonmel today in support of Sean Meehan.
The pensioner is at the centre of a planning dispute in relation to his home in New Inn. The accommodation is a mobile home on land Mr Meehan owns. The structure has been surrounded by cladding to give a log cabin appearance and to improve the warmth of the home. The structure has twice been refused planning permission by Tipperary County Council although these decisions were not appealed to An Bord Pleanála. Enforcement proceedings were commenced and in December 2023, Mr Meehan was ordered to clear the site by March 14th.The next court date is April 4th were Mr Meehan could be imprisoned for failing to comply with the court orders. The protest march will begin at 11.30am at the West Gate and march to Tipperary County Council Offices on Emmett Street were a number of speeches are to be delivered. Supporters of Mr Meehan also plan a peaceful protest at the next Court date in Cashel on April 4th. Tipp Mid West Radio understands that work is ongoing involving officials from Tipperary Council Planning and Housing sections to find a satisfactory resolution. The initial council investigation began on foot of a complaint from a member of the public about un authorised development.
