Tipperary Council roads engineers have agreed to carry out an assessment of the bend at Rahyvira with a view to the possible need for safety improvement works. The bend is on the R 497 close to Ironmills Cross. The road links Tipperary town to Nenagh.
Cllr John Crosse submitted the request for safety measures via a motion to the February Municipal District meeting saying there are frequent accidents at the location.
The council roads engineers say the location will be assessed and dependent on the findings it may be considered for inclusion in future Safety Improvements Applications. Cllr Crosse says local residents are very concerned about the dangerous nature of the bend adding that cars frequently lose control and leave the roadway ending up in the ditch.
For 2024 Tipperary Council is to get an allocation of €600,000 for 10 safety improvement works at 10 specific locations on the county’s roads.
