Criminal Damage Caused To Marian Hall Overnight

The Marian Hall in Tipperary town was targeted by criminals overnight with several doors being damaged.

A tutor arriving to provide a class made the discovery this morning.

The culprits damaged several interior doors and the hall management committee say their initial assessment is that four new doors will be required.

A clean up and repair operation is already underway under the guidance of Ms Anne O’Dwyer who has managed the Hall since 1996.

At this stage a complete list of missing items has not been completed as the various users of the hall have not had an opportunity to assess the rooms.

A room used by the Legion of Mary has had its prayer books, information leaflets and folders removed from the shelf and thrown on the floor. None of the framed religious photographs on the wall of this room have been damaged. A canteen area and storage press were similarly searched with the contents of shelves and drawers emptied onto the floor. In addition, some props stored near the stage area have also been scattered.

The incident occurred sometime between 6pm on Wednesday and 9am on Thursday morning.
Garda from Tipperary town station have visited the crime scene and say anyone with any information should contact the station on 062 80670.
