A €5M upgrade at the CBS High School in Clonmel, under the Additional Accommodation Scheme was raised in the Seanad today by Senator Garret Ahearn. The Senator was seeking an update on the major project for the school as it was first announced in February 2020.
The school has a student body of over 700 students and is seeking to expand by adding some general classrooms and several specialist rooms.
Senator Ahearn says the delay in moving the project to active construction is causing frustration. The Department of Education says it cannot give a definitive timeline on when the project will move from the current stage as a review of the cost plan submitted by the school in 2023 is still ongoing. Final design, planning approval are required before the project can go to tender.
Minister Mary Butler says the project is one of 1,300 school building projects at various stages of delivery and committed to bring the concerns raised to the Minister for Education Norma Foley.
