A major new recruitment campaign by An Garda Siochana is underway with significant changes to the campaign.
The age limit to apply to be a Garda trainee increased from 35 years to 50 years(Retirement age is 60) and new recruits will be paid a training allowance of €305 per week for the 34 week training period in Templemore Garda College.
On successful completion of the programme new Garda can expect a starting salary of €35,000 and when combined with shift allowances an increase of 20% in pay is to be expected.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris is calling for people from all background and communities to apply to become a Garda. An Garda Síochána also hopes to attracting candidates working in police services abroad and from other careers.
The Garda Recruitment Competition is now open and will run until 3pm on 8 February 2024. Candidates can apply at www.publicjobs.ie.
There are a number of stages in the recruitment process including an online test, medical assessment, a fitness test and Garda vetting. Successful applicants could expect to begin formal training 5 to 6 months after the application deadline.
