6 New Sunday Sessions Available At Sean Treacy Memorial Swimming Pool Tipperary Town

The Sean Treacy Memorial Swimming Pool in Tipperary town is now open to the public for 6 sessions on Sundays following the recruitment of additional staff. The pool offers a total of 55 public swimming sessions over 7 days. There is no requirement to advance book a time for swimming. In addition, school groups and others have 23 sessions block booked – public access is not available at these times. 

The Sunday swimming sessions, 45 minutes in duration, begin at 10am and the pool will close at 2.30pm on Sundays similar to Saturdays. Later opening times are available Monday to Friday.

Additional full and part time lifeguards are being sought by the Sean Treacy Pool. Training courses for Pool Lifeguard, Assistant Swimming Teacher and Full Swimming Teacher qualifications will be offered at the pool in the near future. Seán Allis Treacy(Seán Ó Treasaigh) was born in Soloheadbeg on 14 February 1895. He was one of the leaders of the Third Tipperary Brigade of the IRA during the war of Independence and was involved in the Soloheadbeg Ambush on January 21 1919 which is widely accepted as the first engagement of the Irish War of Independence. He was killed in October 1920, on Talbot Street, Dublin in a shootout with British troops. The Swimming Pool hosts a small museum of artefacts associated with Sean Treacy.
