A fundraising event at the Canon Hayes Athletic Track in Tipperary Town over the weekend has raised over €16,000 to date. Stuart Moloney took on the challenge of running 100k in a day in aid of the South Tipperary Irish Wheelchair Association and Aherlow LGFA in difficult wet and windy conditions.
Two officials from the club, Paddy “The Bear” O’Shea and John Hayes secretary of the Aherlow Senior Club, remained with Stuart for the 24 hour event and others came throughout and offered physio( Mary Louise Ryan & Siobhan Condon) or ran with Stuart as he completed 4k on each hour having started with a 6km run on Saturday at 11am. Supporters completed laps with Stuart on tricycles, pushing prams and walking or running.
St Michael’s Soccer club provided facilities for Stuart including a base for showers, changing clothes, nutrition, rest and physio over the 24 hour event.
The event concluded at 10am yesterday morning when over 100 supporters cheered Stuart through the final laps to achieve is target of 100k in a day. Donations can still be made on the dedicated website 100kinaday.ie.
