Tipperary’s own Jim o the Mills public house and music venue is to feature on TG4 on January 21st at 10.45pm.
The traditional music series Geantraí is making a comeback in January 2024 and in total 13 episodes have been filmed. Acclaimed singer and musician Ciarán Ó Gealbháin takes the helm as series presenter where he travels the length and breadth of the country to celebrate Ireland’s vibrant music session tradition.
In October 2022 the film crew visited the famed Upperchurch venue that is only open on Thursday nights or for special events. The programme will feature music from Jim Ryan and Cáit Ní Riain, Ned Kelly, Claire Quinn, Fergal O’Neill, JP Reynolds, Síofra Thornton, Stephen Kennedy, Orla O’Brien, Eileen O’Brien, Áine Gleeson, Aidan O’Donnell, William Holmes and Ciarán Slattery.
The series aims to give a platform for traditional artists young and old.
Ciarán Ó Gealbháin, the series presenter is from An Sean Phobal in the Déise Gaeltacht of Co. Waterford. In the past he has performed with the band Danú, Liam Clancy, The Chieftains and many more. He also works as a lecturer in Béaloideas (Folklore) in University College Cork.
