Galbally Community Council has been granted €28,000 by Clár for the development of an adult exercise area near the playground in the village park according to the Vale Star.
It is anticipated that this facility will feature five pieces of exercise equipment for adults.
Local councillor Eddie Ryan is credited for his work in securing this grant and also for getting footpaths around the church yard replaced at a cost of approximately €30,000 through his Municipal District allocation.
Galbally Community Council is preparing to mark the centenary of the world record created by long jump hero Jim Fahey at Chicago in 1924.
Jim is honoured through the wall of fame at the priest’s cross and now Tom Blackburn, a leading member of the Mooreabbey Athletic club, is to lead the centenary event planning.
Galbally Community Council is also to install a new bench at the village park which has been made by the Men’s Shed Group in memory of former parish priest Canon Denis Talbot.
