Tim Cullinan’s term as President of the Irish Farmers Association(IFA) will end today at the IFA AGM in the Irish Farm Centre in Bluebell on the south of Dublin City.
The Toomevara pig farmer will be replaced by the newly elected Francie Gorman.
Mr Gorman will be the 17th President of the IFA, and the second from Laois.
Later today the AGM will be addressed by Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
The change sees the end of a period when Tipperary had a strong role in farm leadership positions as Pat McCormack’s, term as President of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association(ICMSA) also ended just before Christmas.
Mr McCormack is based near Tipperary town – the Dairy farmer’s organisation is now led by Denis Drennan from County Kilkenny.
