New Data Shows High Uptake Of Local Leaving Cert Students Progressing To Third-Level Education

New data shows a high uptake of local leaving cert students progressing to third-level education with over 86 percent progressing to higher eduction this year.

The latest Irish Times Feeder Schools Report shows a 100% progression of leaving cert students at The Abbey School in Tipperary Town being in third-level.

St Anne’s Secondary School in Tipperary Town and Colaiste Dun Iascaigh in Cahir scored 83% progression score of their 6th year students entering college.

St. Ailbe’s School has a rate of 80% of leaving cert students entering colleges/universities.

Cashel Community School had 172 students who did the leaving cert this year with 67% attending third level.

While the pay feeing school in the area Rockwell College has 104 percent rate of students going to college this year.

The Irish Times says the explanation for schools having over 100% progress is likely when a student registers with a college in the CAO system, they are then credited to their former school.

The national overall figure is approximately 80%, the study also shows the gap is narrowing between students in DEIS school and private schools when it comes to the progression of students going to higher education.
