An Garda Siochana is to begin a pilot of a new operational uniform element involving baseball caps today.
Three stations are to participate in a trial namely Ballinasloe Co. Galway, Terenure, Dublin and Bantry, Co. Cork. The pilot will include two sample caps: a soft baseball cap and a ‘bump stop’ cap. The new element of the uniform follows on from changes earlier this year to the uniform which saw changes to the pants and jackets worn by Gardaí on duty.
The initial response to the Garda release yesterday was that woollen caps would be more appropriate for the Irish Climate.
