795 Applicants Approved For Social Housing In Tipp/Cashel/Cahir District

The number of approved applicants for social housing in the Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District is 795 according to data presented at this week’s meeting of the MD Council. 

At present the council has 13 vacant social houses – one is available for occupation the others need minor repairs (11) and major refurbishment (1).

Applicants for social housing are asked to list their top 3 preferences as regards the location of accommodation.  234 approved applicants are seeking homes in Tipperary town, 210 approved applicants have prioritised Cashel, Cahir is the preference for 105 applicants while both Bansha and Ardfinnan have 32 approved applicants.  27 other villages across the District have a total of 182 approved applicants waiting on social housing.

A number of social housing construction projects in the District are at various stages of completion – the projects go through 4 stages from Departmental approval in principle to fund the development to the project going to tender.

In Tipperary town the only project in train are plans for 4 units on Fr Matthew Street – Cllr Roger Kennedy expects that the council may purchase some homes under construction by a private developer on the Dundrum Road.  A total of 59 units are to be completed by the end of the year in Cashel, Bansha, Donohill, Ardfinnan, Cahir and Tipperary town(Irish House  6 units).

 A number of other projects are at various stages (between Stage 1 and Stage 4) that will in time deliver 189 houses. These are located in Cahir (43 & 48), Cashel ( 44 & 40) and Clogheen 14.
