Tipperary Sinn Fein TD Martin Browne has accused the Department of Justice of being completely divorced from the realities on the ground concerning Cashel Garda Station.

The TD says the Justice Minister Helen McEntee claims that Cashel Garda Station is open on a five day a week, 9 to 5 basis.

Deputy Browne says “Everyone in Cashel is aware that there are real shortcomings when it comes to the opening hours of Cashel Garda Station.”

Deputy Browne highlights this week’s statement from Superintendent Ruane confirming that the Garda station is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1.30pm to 4pm and from 8am to 1.30pm on Fridays.

Minister McEntee made the claim in response to a parliamentary question. Deputy Browne says the Department is out of touch with the reality of the situation in towns across the county such as Cashel.

The Cashel based TD is asking Minister McEntee to “raise the issue with the Garda Commissioner whose responsibility it is to determine the distribution and stationing of the Garda Síochána throughout the State.”
