A reliable acceptable source of water for Clonmel must be found according to rural independent TD Mattie McGrath.
The Newcastle based Mattie McGrath, and local Councillor Niall Dennehy are urgently calling for swift action with a focus on securing a test borehole at the Kickham Barracks site in Clonmel town.
The TD says Tipperary County Council are rejecting Uisce Éireann’s request to conduct a test borehole at the Kickham Barracks site.
Given that the town has had over fifty water outages since April 1, Deputy McGrath says the situation has become a crisis that demands immediate attention.
The TD says Uisce Eireann has a capital budget of €1.56 billion for domestic water services in 2023 and a total capital budget of €6 billion until 2025.
Deputy McGrath is particularly disappointed in the County Council’s refusal of a potential solution, as Uisce Éireann’s proposed long-term fix involves a hard water supply which could bring additional costs to households and businesses due to damage to equipment.
Deputy McGrath is calling for a meeting between senior Uisce Éireann and Council officials to progress a solution and also wants Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien to direct Uisce Éireann to fulfil what he calls it’s “public service duty in Clonmel.”
