The government has expanded the eligibility for a GP visit card and the HSE Mid West Community Healthcare is encouraging all those who may be eligible, to apply. Applications can be made online via hse.ie/gpvisitcards
Applications are means tested so people applying will be asked to self-declare their income and allowable outgoings.
GP visit cards allow the holders to access GP care without fees but charges for medicine will continue to apply.
The HSE says it looks at a person’s income, personal circumstances and expenses to see if they qualify – the qualifying threshold is unique to each person’s situation – dependent on income, dependents and allowable expenses – this scheme refers to people aged under 70.
Persons aged under 8 years and over 70 years are entitled to a GP visit card regardless of income.
Full details of the scheme are available at this link here.
