Tipp Town To Benefit From New Online Air Quality Forecast Service

1016

Tipperary town along with Nenagh and Clonmel is to benefit from a new online air quality forecast service which will show the predicted air quality for up to three days – today, tomorrow and the following day. The forecast maps will be updated twice daily – in the morning and evening.

The service is under the management of the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) and is intended to help individuals be aware of current air quality, especially those with conditions such as asthma, other respiratory related conditions and heart conditions. Forecasts include daily Air Quality Index for Health (AQIH), Particulate Matter (PM), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3) as these are the three main air pollutants impacting human health in Ireland.

Data from 115 monitoring stations across the country will feed data into a map that gives a forecast rating for the air quality in a given area with green indicating good air quality along a range to the colour purple which represents very poor air quality. The maps are available to view on the website airquality.ie which shows a good rating for air quality  at  the three Tipperary stations today.
