The Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) is urgently appealing for more regular donors to give blood especially O-, A- and B- donors. Stocks of blood on hand have fallen below the target of having 7 days’ stock on hand at all times. A donation clinic is being held in Thurles on Sunday at the Dome, Semple Stadium between the hours of 11.50am and 3.10pm.
Donors can call 1 800 222 111 for details or visit the website giveblood.ie
The service says there has been a 6% increase in demand from hospitals in 2023 but that hospitals may be unable to proceed with some planned care if stocks are not sufficient.
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is urging regular donors to respond when they receive a text alert and to make an appointment to make a donation.
Further clinic information can also be found on the website and anybody interested in becoming a new donor can register their interest on www.giveblood.ie “Become a Donor” and the service will make contact when next in the person’s area.
The IBTS is also extending thanks to all donors for what it calls their “magnificent and continuing support of the IBTS”.
