Local Councillor Tony Black has condemned the behaviour of some youths in Tipperary town last night after cars were damaged as a group of youths threw stones and sticks at vehicles. A driver shared on social media that a roadway was barricaded with scooters and wheelbarrows and that vehicles stopping were assaulted with bricks and sticks. The car involved was occupied by a woman and her daughter. The windscreen was broken and the passengers are said to be shaken by the incident. The driver reports that the youths, numbering between 10 and 15, chased the car as the driver tried to reverse from the scene.
Cllr Black says the attack is senseless and poses a danger of severe injury or fatal injury for members of the community. The Councillor says the incident was premeditated but probably not targeting any specific individual – family members of the assailants could have been victims if they were travelling on the roadway at the time. The Councillor says someone must be held accountable for the incident and questions if laws are sufficient and if Garda have sufficient resources to respond. The Councillor urged anyone being affected by such an attack to report it to Gardaí and appealed for an end to incidents of cars being targeted with stones etc.
