Major Water Works Project To Begin Next Week In Golden

Uisce Eireann is to begin a project in Golden next week that will involve replacing more than 2km of aged cast iron water mains with new modern pipes. These improvement works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.

The section of works will take place along a segment of the N74, and continue through Main Street until the T-Junction close to Golden Kilfeacle GAA club.

The works will be carried out by Shareridge Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann and will be completed by early next year.

Areas of works will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management will be in place where water mains are being constructed but the community can be assured that local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.

The works may require some short-term water interruptions, but the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.

The works are being undertaken as part of the National Leakage Reduction Programme the water network was prioritised for replacement by Uisce Éireann due to its age and deteriorating condition, resulting in supply interruptions to homes and businesses.

Uisce Eireann says when completed, this project will improve water quality, significantly reduce leakage and provide local residents with a sustainable and more reliable water supply for generations to come.

This project forms part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme as it works towards a 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25% of treated water.
