Uisce Éireann’s has commenced work on a €3M upgrade of a wastewater treatment plant that will benefit the people of Cahir and surrounding areas.
The benefits of the upgrade to Cahir Wastewater Treatment Plant are expected to be considerable for the local community. The project will result in the capacity of the plant increasing by 10%, growing from a population equivalent of 5,000 to 5,500 and will also have the capacity to increase by another 500 into the future. Such capacity is essential to enable housing and commercial development.
In addition, the upgraded wastewater treatment plant will provide better health and integrity to the environment and improve the water quality in the River Suir. When completed the project will ensure compliance with national and EU regulations relating to the treatment of wastewater.
Works are expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Murphy Process Engineering Ltd (MPE) is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
