Cahir is hosting the production of a new film for Netflix.
The cast and crew number over 100 and filming may have to extend into Saturday due to weather conditions today.
It is understood that the filming is for “The Wayfarer” the first episode of the first season of a new series of Marco Polo.
The crew have already completed some filming at the Rock of Cashel.
The filming will take place in Cahir Castle, outside the castle and in the Inch Field
The Castle is closed to the public due to the filming. The production company had requested that the grass be allowed to grow in a portion of the Inch Field for the film. The production set has occupied most of the Castle car park and also leased a second parking area in the town. Cllr Andy Moloney says the production is most welcome in the town as it means an immediate economic benefit and a longer term benefit in terms of exposure to a global audience. Cahir Castle was the winner of the European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN) Location of the Year Award for 2021
