Tipperary County Council advising of Temporary Traffic Management on the N62 Slievenamon Road, Thurles, commencing on Monday September 25th and running until October 23rd. The entrance point to the River Suir Walkway at Clongour will be closed during the works.
The works are part of a further realignment of the road and include the relocation of an ESB pole, relocating the footpath and installing a segment of a cycle path from the traffic lights to point approximately 100 metres from the lights at the end of a terrace of 8 houses on the southbound lane of the N62. Concerns are being expressed about delivering a segment of cycling lane that ends at this point well within the town bounds.
It is understood that the council are to acquire lands from a resident for the realignment made necessary following the works at the junction to create the entrance to former Erin Foods site. This is the second resident providing land to enable the realignment at the junction.
It is understood that Tipperary County council is funding the works.
This entrance roadway to the new Lidl site is effectively the beginning point for the Thurles Inner Relief road – construction of a river crossing and the Inner Relief Road is dependent on Tipperary County Council acquiring the necessary land and securing funding for the construction of the road which was given planning permission in 2014.
