A Met Eireann Weather Station at Gurteen Agriculture College in North Tipperary recorded six consecutive days with temperatures over 25C – scientists consider a pattern of five consecutive days with such temperatures to be a “heatwave”.
September heatwaves were also recorded in Clare, Carlow, and Roscommon as scientists continue to express concerns about rising global temperatures.
14 of Met Eireann’s weather stations registered their highest ever temperatures for the month of September.
A monitoring site on Valentia Island off the South West Coast recorded a new record high night time temperature of 19.2 Celsius on September 7th – which broke a 142 year old record.
