Tipperary Roads Policing Unit patrolling the M8 Motorway as part of National Slow Down Day intercepted a vehicle travelling 162km/h earlier today.
The driver, a Novice, having been stopped for Dangerous Driving then failed a DrugWipe roadside test for Cannabis. The motorist was arrested and is now to face a future court date.
Garda nationwide are implementing a National Slow Down Day until 7am tomorrow morning to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding and to increase compliance with speed limits.
In the first 5 hours of National Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked the speed of 37,916 vehicles and detected 127 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit including a driver on the M8 near Cahir travelling at 138km/hour.
The applicable speed limit is 120km/hr.
