A mobile x-ray service to help the elderly avoid having to go to the Emergency Department is being rolled out in South Tipperary from this month.
It follows the success of a pilot programme.
The HSE is expanding the free, community-based service meaning people will be able to have x-rays taken in their nursing home or facility where they reside instead of having to travel to a hospital.
As of the end of July 4,000 patients avoid Emergency Department as they used the new service.
Patients do not need a medical card to avail of the service, which is funded by the HSE to provide the service in public and private nursing homes.
