Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath says bureaucracy is threatening the Agricultural sector. The TD says a new government, dedicated to prioritising the interests of rural Ireland in all aspects of policymaking is required.

The comments come as a new Fertiliser Register for farmers is to come into operation on September 1st.

Under the new requirements, farmers will need registered user numbers to purchase fertilisers, and merchants will be obliged to report these transactions. Deputy McGrath says the new administrative obligation is causing concerns to some farmers particularly among those less comfortable with technology. Deputy McGrath also hit out at the Common Agricultural Policy saying it has transformed into a complex web of regulations.

The TD is accusing the government of prioritising  a narrow Green Party agenda over the welfare of rural Ireland and its farmers.
