Deputy Mattie McGrath says the Government Warmer Homes Scheme is falling to meet demand with applications facing long delays.
Data released in response to a Parliamentary Question reveals that out of 15,203 applications received since February 2022, only 5,287 have been completed to the end of May. In county Tipperary 149 out of 519 applications have been fulfilled.
Deputy McGrath says the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland(SEAI) accepts that there is now a waiting time between application and completion of works under the free energy upgrade scheme of well over 2 years.
The Rural Independent TD says the scheme needs to be reformed to ensure that people can reduce their energy usage as planned. The Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme has a budget of €148.5M for this year to deliver a range of energy efficiency measures free of charge to low-income households vulnerable to energy poverty.
