The Fianna Fáil TD for Tipperary, Jackie Cahill is calling for county Tipperary to be included in the Enhanced Defective Concrete Block Scheme more commonly known as the MICA Redress Scheme.
Deputy Cahill says a number of property owners in Tipperary are seeking financial support after establishing that their properties are affected by pyrite. Both Mica and Pyrite cause concrete blocks to rot and crumble.
Deputy Cahill has visited a number of homes in the north of the county and says cracks appear to be relentless in damaging walls no matter how much repair work is undertaken by the home owner. Deputy Cahill says families with a mortgage on such a property cannot be left without state support and now wants the Department of Housing to add County Tipperary to the scheme, which currently only covers Donegal, Mayo, Clare and Limerick. At present the redress scheme is expected to cost the state between 2 and 3 Billion euros.
