Water supplies in the south east of the county could be disrupted today and tomorrow due to industrial action by members of the Unite Trade Union. The dispute relates to the terms and conditions available for staff that choose to transfer to be direct employees of Uisce Eireann. The staff want assurances that they will retain their public service status if they join Uisce Eireann.
Staff at four Water Treatment Plants in county Tipperary are taking part in the work stoppage today and tomorrow leading Uisce Eireann to put the plants at Crotty’s Lake, Templetney, Glenary and Poulavanogue on a precautionary Boil Water notice until early next week. Due to the industrial action there is also a possibility of slow response to any burst pipes that may arise in the area supplied by the plants mainly in Carrick on Suir, Clonmel and east of Cahir affecting over 19,000 customers.
Uisce Eireann customers supplied by the Burncourt/Ballylooby and Ardfinnan Water Treatment Plants are also under Boil Water Notices due to the lower than required quality of the raw water taken into the plants for treatment. These notices can only be lifted when water sampling returns three consecutive days of satisfactory results.
The Uisce Eireann customer care line can be contacted at 1 800 278 278.
